New show on tv this evening - Talkin' 'bout my Generation,  a show that pits baby boomers, genXers and gen y's against each other. The first question was 'guess the pop culture reference of these t-shirts'. The very first t-shirt? A dalek. Both number one son and I got it right. He's ten, and I am so proud of him. :)

The bushfires have claimed more victims, with 108 deaths as of 6am Monday, and predictions of more bodies to be found. Entire townships have been razed. This is worse than Ash Wednesday in 1983.  And to think that at least one of the fires was deliberately lit on a 47C (approx 115F) day. My sister evacuated her three kids across to my mums' when the smoke got too thick around her area in Eaglehawk. As it is, I can smell smoke down here in Melbourne, but that is such a minor inconvenience compared to what others are going through. My heart hurts for all those who have lost loved ones.

Thursday, December 25th, 2008 12:46 am seems I have a new fandom. Or two. A friend lent me seasons 1 and 2 of Torchwood, aaand after mainlining both seasons, I think I'm hooked. I'm also going to be internet - less for about three weeks.

Help me?

BTW, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all. :)

While looking for things for the kids to do on our looong car trip this Christmas, I came across the Crayola site.
And this is what I saw:

Anybody want to make one?

This guy can not be serious, surely! I thought the whole 'fading the curtains' thing was great, but this bloke even put his name to it. He probably won't be seen down the pub for a looong time.

The only problem with daylight saving I had this year was the fact that it was brought in a month early!

...when you can't sleep.

Someone on my flist posted a link to the first ep of Tori Spelling's and Dean McDermott's new show, 'Inn Love'. Be warned - if the cheesiness of the title doesn't scare you off, the behaviour of Ms Spelling may do so.

A few observations, with spoilers too: )

As others have commented, this show is a train wreck, and I can't wait 'til the next episode... shoot me now...

Reading through one of the blogs I regularly check, I came across this link:

It's a send-up of the 'controversy' surrounding gay marriage laws, except New Zealand is proposing to ban Americans from marrying each other. It has some delightful Canadian references too.

(Apologies to dialup users; the file is 14 Mb, Quicktime format, embedded)

I should go to bed, eventually. It's 1.05 am according to the pc clock.

My first rally was great! Melbourne's weather did its usual thing of providing four seasons in one day, and A enjoyed himself too. There were around 60,000 people at the 'G, despite the media and critics downplaying the numbers and calling the day 'a flop'. And we got to see Barnesy strut his stuff for three songs. Yeah!

Psst, [ profile] laylee , I saw your letter in the paper! Heee!

just eaten a banana that has been in my handbag since Wednesday. Yum! That's what happens when I'm feeling peckish, and too lazy to get up and go to the fruit bowl. Bananas are still a luxury; supermarkets are still price gouging at above $10/kg. The local fruit & veg had them last week for $6/kg, so I bought up big, and the kids (big and small) have enjoyed them.

Anyone know of a good (and permanent) way to get rid of ants? Any container in the kitchen without an airtight lid is fair game for them, and it's not just sweet stuff either. Ever tried to figure out if there are ants in the vegemite?

The MotH and I have done our compulsory 'civic duty', and voted at an early polling station. Hopefully, some attention will be paid to the western suburbs and beyond, as lately the only time we see our elected members is when they want our vote. Even so, there is not much in the way of electoral advertising around; I think I've seen maybe one or too placards at most.

In semi-related news, I'll be off to the stopwork meeting at the MCG next Thursday with MotH, and, it seems, mini-MotH. Mini-MotH has the day off school because his teacher will be at the same rally. Could be an interesting day.

E gave me a scare (one of many lately) Wednesday morning. She woke up for an early morning snack (5-ish), and as she was nursing, she sounded a bit 'snuffly', so I waited until she was finished, sat her up, and noticed a shadow on her cheek in the very little light that gets into the bedroom. I turned the bedside light on, and to my horror, her face was covered in blood. Not to mention me, and the pillows, and the sheets, etc.
A quick call to the nurse hotline assured me that it wasn't to unusual for that to happen, especially if a parent has the same thing. Bingo! I get nosebleeds a lot in hot weather, so it looks like E may be the same. I just hope that's it, and she doesn't inherit any of my other health problems.

If there are one or more people on your friends list who make your world a better place just because they exist, and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.

To generalise, my friends list.

Today's word is 'sommelier'. I have have no idea how it got there.
